Fascination Update

Our horse Fascination is doing much better. If you read my post at the end of last month (That’s Horse) you already know she’s been sick lately. It all started when we noticed she was a little bit “ouchy” on her two front feet. That progressed into a fever and at one point she was laying in the field groaning in every breath with us at her side. We weren’t sure she would make it. The vet gave her all kinds of medicine, which made her feel a lot better but she was still pretty sore on her front feet. We got a second opinion and this vet thought she needed to lose about 200 lb (we do spoil her, as she has access to a lot of pasture). So, he prescribed a grazing muzzle, which makes it much harder (but not impossible) to eat grass. She gets a special grain now that is supposed to help her shed the pounds (she’s on the Adkins diet). She likes that stuff a lot. She’s never had grain before and goes nuts over it. She has been acting much better lately and she seems to be a lot more comfortable. She lost about 25 lb just this week, so I think she is well on her way to full health. Here is a picture of her wearing her grazing muzzle:

She was pretty grouchy when we first put it on, but she doesn’t really mind now that she gets grain every day. I’m off to the soap shop. Take it easy.
