A Message From HSMG

We’ve been pretty darn busy around Alabu the past few months, but I wanted to stop and pass along a message from the HSMG.

The Safe Cosmetics Act of 2010, introduced in the House of Representatives earlier this year, would impose very burdensome and unwarranted requirements on the handcrafted soap and cosmetics industry. Fortunately, the current legislation is held up in Committee and no action is expected before the 110th Congress adjourns in December . In January 2011, the 111th Congress will be sworn in and the legislation will have to be reintroduced . Between now and then, we will build a foundation made up of key congressional supporters for the HSMG position .

5 Ways The “Safe Cosmetics Act” Will Harm Consumers

First, let me explain what the “Safe Cosmetics Act” is. It’s a bill that has been introduced into the house by representatives Schakowsky (D-IL), Markey (D-MA) and Baldwin (D-WI). This bill’s stated purpose is to make the cosmetic industry safer through further regulation. First, I’d like to say that I don’t think Dove is a terrible awful product and you should never use it. I think our soap is far better, but don’t take my word for it! All I’m trying to do is point out where Dove is misleading or not being completely honest. I won’t make any claims that I can’t back up.

Now, onto the ad. For this post I’m going to be heavily referencing a lecture given by Dr. Kevin Dunn. Kevin has a PhD in chemistry and has been studying soap specifically for many Continue reading →
