A New Family Member

We started looking for a cat to adopt and found one at the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society in Menands, NY. The staff and volunteers there were all so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They knew about the animals under their care, and pointed us in the right direction to find the perfect pet for us. Continue Reading »

Newsletter…How Do I Get That In My Inbox?

Yesterday we shared several ways to make every dollar and bar go a little further. One of the way that we suggest to saving money on your purchases was to read our newsletter. At the beginning of every month we send out a wonderful newsletter filled with photos from around our farm, stories about what is going on behind the scenes, and any promotions. Continue Reading »

A Little More on Why

Are fragrance oils that different from essential oils? The simple answer is yes. The confusion happens because many people use these terms interchangeably. Nonetheless, a lot of questions have been raised about our decision to discontinue fragrance oils. This is not a decision that was made without serious consideration. I decided to take a few moments and go into a little more detail about how we made this decision. Continue Reading »

No More Purely Herbal, Why?

There has been a lot going on over the last few months at Alabu. Nell and I have been unable to participate in the day-to-day activities, but we are excited to be back now. It was exciting to see a lot of the changes that have been made. One change that was made in the last few months is to discontinue our fragrance oil soaps. Continue Reading »

New Goat Kids

It’s been great meeting all kinds of people at the Country Folk Art Show this weekend. I’ve gotten a lot of requests for pictures of our newly born goat kids, so I thought I would put a few of them up here.

They were born on April 2nd at about 4:45 a.m. All three are Continue Reading »

New Lotion Setup

About a year ago we improved our lotion-making process. I haven’t written about it yet, so I thought I’d share a little bit about it. When I took over the production of Lotion Sticks, I realized that our process was sometimes leading to inconsistent Lotion Sticks. If you’ve ever had a lotion stick Continue Reading »

Living in the Stone Ages

We’ve got about five computers here in the Alabu Headquarters (that’s our walk-out basement for those of you who don’t know). It seems like every week at least one of them is acting up, well, except for my MacBook Pro. That never seems to act up. Oh, Maryclaire just got an iMac for Christmas, and that never seems to have problems either. So I guess it’s just the PCs that need so much Continue Reading »

Fascination Update

Our horse Fascination is doing much better. If you read my post at the end of last month (That’s Horse) you already know she’s been sick lately. It all started when we noticed she was a little bit “ouchy” on her two front feet. That progressed into a fever and at one point she was laying in the field groaning in every Continue Reading »

That’s Horse.

Well, it’s been quite a while since I’ve chatted here. Since I’ve finished school I’ve actually gotten busier. I thought that things might slow down but somehow I now have less time. So be it though, at least I am busy with things I enjoy. Continue Reading »

In The News…

I’ve had quite a busy week! If you haven’t heard already, a local newspaper (The Schenectady Gazette) recently featured Alabu Soap on the front page of the Business section. It was a great article actually, I’d say it was the best article in Alabu history. Continue Reading »
